15-year-old Mahmoud lives in a block of flats in Oslo. During the summer, he likes to hang out with his Somali friend Arif. But when his uncle Ji comes over from Pakistan, Mahmoud has to show him around together with his nine-year-old brother Ali. He finds out Ali would rather be a girl, which changes his worldview.
“It is like being able to take a peek into someone else's life, and as judges, we think it is important that children learn about what it can be like in someone else's home. The theme of the film is important and topical, but also heavy and intense to watch at times. Yet it also contains a lot of humour and funny tricks, such as drawn text over the screen and characters looking straight into the camera, and the film looks very beautiful.”- de Jeugdjury
