Cinekid selects 22 projects from 25 countries for the 2025 Junior Co-Production Market.
Cinekid proudly presents the selection for the Junior Co-Production Market this October in Pathé Amsterdam Noord during the 2025 edition of Cinekid for Professionals. This year 22 projects will be presented; 16 films and 6 series of which these 8 are live action and 14 are animated. Four nearly completed projects will be presented in works-in-progress section.
The number of submissions increased by 27% compared to last year, with a wide range of projects from countries across the globe — from Indonesia to Luxembourg, Poland to Sweden. Among the new participating countries is Uruguay, represented by the project Shenku by Micaela Gabot.
Cinekid is proud to support the continued development of projects that have participated in our training programmes. Two Directors LAB alumni will pitch: Splish Splash Forever! by Natascha Beller, a feel-good summer film about two girls fighting to save their local public pool, and the suspenseful Crawlers by Mirjam Sveinbjörg Thorkelsdottir, where girl-scouts transform into deadly predators. We also have one Script LAB alumnus: Seashells by Antonio Bigini, a story of grief and acceptance set against the backdrop of a small Italian village in the 60s. Lastly, the work-in-progress feature Everyone’s Sorry Nowadays by Frederike Migom was workshopped in both LABs on a headstrong teenager struggling to find her place in her broken family.
The theme of displacement is represented in English Lesson by Ivan Tymchenko in which Ukranian children reunite online for their first English lesson since the war has begun. Similarly, in Displaced Childhood by Giedre Narusyte Boots and Enrico Cerasuolo intergenerational encounters between children of the past and current day are presented, all of them facing similar migration challenges caused by war and other hardship. Dreamscape follows a girl investigating the family history of two Jewish brothers who hid in the Amsterdam Zoo during the World War II, while in Moss – the union between a dog and child brings solace during wartime.
The power of imagination is also an important theme in a lot of selected projects. For instance, in Macanudo: The Series by Andrea Fernandez two best friends fight to keep ‘macanudo’ - the magical ability of children to bring their wildest fantasies to life. The series Marnie Blarney by Csaba Molnár revolves around a young girl who wants to be a pirate and sets out to make a film with her friends and a runaway goat. In Dreamwalker by Rudi Mertens, a girl with a sleep disorder, travels through the world of dreams and befriends a mysterious boy who seems to be trapped there.
Two projects were pre-selected at Mifa (The Star Child by Paul Ruttledge and Jack O'Shea) and Bogota Audiovisual Market (Poli by David Andrés Mesa) by the CfP team, winning the Cinekid for Professionals prizes at those events respectively.
“We were impressed by the outstanding quality of applications this year and are delighted to welcome new countries into the selection, underscoring the continued relevance of the JCM as a platform for launching children’s projects to the industry. Strengthened by our partnerships with markets worldwide, we look forward to further expanding the international potential of the selected projects through these collaborations.”- Jessica Cohen (Cinekid for Professionals Coordinator)
“It was a pleasure to be involved in the JCM selection this year. As a sales agent, it’s exciting to see such a diverse range of formats, styles, and countries represented—making it a prime opportunity to discover the next great family film. The selection process was no easy task!”- Alexandra Cruz (Consultant Network and Strategy)
The best feature film project with European co-production potential intended for cinema release will receive the prestigious Eurimages Co-Production Development Award worth €20.000. The PUBLIKUM Audience Awareness Award, worth €9.000 in services, is given out by the Danish consultancy Will & Agency, who work in audience analysis and research for media projects. Lastly, the Filmmore Post-Production Award comes with a €5.000 prize and will go to the best live-action project and be awarded in services of the postproduction house. The award winners will be announced on Wednesday, 22 October at the Cinekid Awards at Oedipus Craft Space.
