At the upcoming 31st edition of the Cinekid Festival new awards are introduced in collaboration with Mediawijzer.net and ECP | Platform voor Informatie Samenleving. Three awards will be handed out for new media projects under the name Cinekid Media Awards.
In previous editions Cinekid presented the Golden Lion to the best artistic media project of the festival selected by a jury accompanied with an audience award. The new format includes two new awards: the Golden Guppy (for the best preschool app, ages 0-6) and the Golden Humming Bird (for youth projects by young people up to 18 years old). Previously, these awards were linked to the partner organisations under the names Media Ukkie Award and the Gouden @penstaart; together titled the Kinder Media Awards. By joining forces Cinekid, Mediawijzer.net and ECP with a combined wide reach, hope to underline and honour the need for qualitative children's media.
Floor van Spaendonck, Director of Cinekid: "With the merge of the prizes, the three organizations want to foster the development of high-quality children's media and spark the conversation about good children's media. The dominant role of children's media can no longer be ignored in our lives and is increasingly the subject of discussion in which safety, feasibility, creativity and innovation play a major role. Three exemplary prizes can contribute to this conversation and, in addition to the award ceremony, also play a part in Cinekid's media seminars”
The Cinekid Media Awards will be handed out on Wednesday 25 October during the Cinekid Festival at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam
