//FESTIVAL HOTEL IN FOCUS: LLOYDS HOTEL & CULTURAL EMBASSY
‘We are delighted to host Cinekid for the fourth year. It is in Lloyds’ DNA to make professionals from the arts and culture feel at home, so it seems the natural choice for guests of the best international film, television and new media festival for children.’
Piet Boogert, General Manager
Situated in the upmarket Eastern Docklands Area the Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy is the first 1-5 star hotel in the world. Built as an emigrants’ hotel in 1921, the innovative power of Dutch design was channelled for its transformation and re-opening in 2004. The interior is designed in collaboration with Dutch architects MVRDV and over 50 internationally renowned Dutch designers including Richard Hutten, Claudy Jongstra, Joep Van Lieshout and Christoph Seyferth. Many of the 117 rooms are completely unique. Form and function are blended in many of the hotel’s innovative design features such as foldaway bathrooms, bespoke bedspreads, idiosyncratic lamps and curtains that are works of art in themselves.
The public spaces over the restaurant are ideal for small meetings or work sessions. And you are free to roam around the library filled with art books. The restaurant serves a menu composed of local products. Gather under the disco ball in the Red Bar, overlooking the harbour, to enjoy local and special beers, cocktails, fine wines or spirits in a laid-back style. Catering to all kinds of people, the atmosphere is relaxed, with excellent, personal service. The hotel and its restaurant and bar are open to hotel guests and locals. There is free WiFi throughout the hotel and 24-hour room service is available in all rooms. The Cultural Embassy offers free access to its informal cultural events, introduces people to one another and gives them the lowdown on Amsterdam cultural life.
In 2011 the Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy opened a second hotel, The Exchange Hotel Amsterdam, an independent design hotel in central Amsterdam. Here, rooms range from 1 to 5 stars as well. The interior was created in collaboration with students from the Amsterdam Fashion Institute.
