Cinekid announces nominations for Cinekid Media Awards

Cinekid and partners and ECP have nominated several media projects for the Golden Lion, Golden Guppy and Golden Humming Bird for best media productions of 2017. The Golden Lion is awarded each year during the Cinekid Festival. New this edition are the Golden Guppy and Golden Humming Bird, which will be presented by partners and ECP. With the awards Cinekid and partners strive to showcase the full range of projects that were developed over the past year and try to stimulate the quality of new media productions aimed at a younger audience.

The nominees for the Golden Lion of the Cinekid Media Awards 2017 are:

Out of the 10 nominees the jury, consisting of professionals John Olivieira, Arne Hendriks, Nicolaas Veul, Tessa de Boer, Hanna Piksen and Nadine Roestenburg, will choose one winner. The projects will also be considered for an audience award: children can vote for their favourite project during the festival. The winners of the Golden Lion jury and audience award will both receive a cash prize of € 3,000. 

All nominated projects will be on display in the MediaLab during the Cinekid Festival, from Saturday 21 October through Friday 27 October. The MediaLab is a 1200m2 digital playground where children can learn in an active way about the possibilities of different media.

The nominees for the Golden Guppy of the Cinekid Media Awards 2017 are:

The Golden Guppy is a jury award for the best app for kids of toddler age. This is a very specific domain for digital design that calls for specific attention to careful detail, tactile qualities in digital interaction and integrity of purpose, befitting this very young audience. This is an award for Dutch-based productions, presented by Cinekid in collaboration with

The jury consists of Hilde Tholen, Denise Bontje, Ilona Jens, René Glas, Niels ’t Hooft, Tomas Sala, Julienne van den Heuvel, Marijke Bos, Thomas Drucker and Merel Beunk.

The nominees for the Golden Humming Bird of the Cinekid Media Awards 2017 are:

The Golden Humming Bird is a jury award for the best and most exciting media project created by children and teenagers. It can be an app or a website, but also a YouTube channel, a new vlog empire or a DIY talk show. This award is for excellence, but perhaps even more so for young ideas and initiatives, as that is exactly what this award recognises: great ideas by the next generation.

The jury consists of Remco Pijpers, Jan Willem Huisman, Sophie Veraart en jonge makers Boyd Winkelman, Wilma Westenberg en Nick Jordan.

During the award ceremony on Wednesday 25 October, Cinekid will announce the winners.
