An important part of the annual Cinekid Festival is the award ceremony for the best media projects: the Golden Lion, Golden Guppy and Golden Hummingbird. The visitors of the festival fulfil an important role as well: they cast their votes for the audience awards.
Every year the Cinekid Festival, Mediawijzer.net and ECP | Platform voor de InformatieSamenleving invite artists, designers and agencies to submit art and design projects for the upcoming MediaLab, as subject for keynote presentations and for consideration of the Cinekid Media Award. The call offers an opportunity to become part of the festival and reach out to an international media experts audience.
The Golden Lion - Best of MediaLab
The best of recent media projects can be discovered in the MediaLab during Cinekid. The opportunities for excellence in media productions are diverse, ranging from interactive installations, games and apps, to VR experiences and workshops. A €3,000 award towards future project development is given to the winner of the Cinekid Golden Lion jury award. The deadline for this year's entry was 1 June 2018.
Audiences know what they love best at the MediaLab. All selected projects are also eligible for an audience award which is (we feel) just as important as the jury pick. The audience award comes with a cash sum of €3,000.
The Golden Guppy - Best Digital Media Product for Toddlers
The Best Digital Media Product for Toddlers (aged zero to six) is an initiative of Mediawijzer.net. The prize, named the Golden Guppy, is a key part of the annual Cinekid Media Awards. Cinekid and Mediawijzer.net select several distinctive media products, such as (hybrid) apps or digital toys connected to innovative software. A jury reviews products on their originality, look and feel, the user experience and educational potential, and awards the best with a Golden Guppy statuette. Deadline for entry is 14 September 2018.
The Golden Hummingbird - Best Media Project by Children and Teenagers
The so-called Golden Humming Bird is a jury award for the best and most exciting media project created by children and teenagers up to the age of 18 years, and is an initiative of ECP | Platform voor Informatie Samenleving. The project can be an app or a website, but also a YouTube channel, a new vlog empire, a DIY talk show or a code experiment. The Golden Hummingbird is awarded for excellence, but perhaps even more so for great ideas and initiatives devised by the next generation. Deadline for entry is 14 September 2018.
