By the creators of Mister Twister and Dummie the Mummy, based on the award winning book by Anna Woltz.
The 32nd edition of the Cinekid Festival opens with the world premiere of PLASTER CAST (GIPS), the new television and film production by PV Fiction, in co-production with Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS and EndemolShine Belgium. PLASTER CAST, based on the award-winning children’s book by Anna Woltz, will premiere at Amsterdam’s Westergasfabriek on Wednesday 17 October, in the company of Ingrid Engelshoven, the Dutch minister of Education, Culture and Science.
PLASTER CAST will air on the NPO Zapp television channel as a Christmas series, starting 6 December. This makes it the latest addition to a series of highly praised productions such as Circus Noël, Remi – Nobody’s Boy and Merry Christmas. The scenario was written by Liesbeth Strik, Pasja van Dam and Tijs van Marle. It is directed by Janneke van Heesch and produced by Paul Voorthuysen.
A single day, a single hospital
In PLASTER CAST, Fitz is furious because her parents decided to break up. It looks like it’s going to be the worst Christmas ever, and she can no longer believe in love. When her sister Bente accidentally loses a fingertip, the whole family winds up in hospital. Just divorced, extremely awkward, and bunched up together. Fitz is so angry that she runs off – into the hospital.
‘We are so happy to open the 32nd edition of our festival with PLASTER CAST. This modern TV and film production stands for quality, a strong scenario, and a message of friendship and love. And that’s what we love at Cinekid!’ – Floor van Spaendonck, director of Cinekid
‘As a writer, you can secretly already imagine your book as a film. But while writing PLASTER CAST, I really couldn’t have imagined that the film adaptation would one day be the opener for Cinekid – it’s fantastic!’ – Anna Woltz, author of PLASTER CAST
From series to feature film
Although PLASTER CAST will air on television as a series this autumn, a 80-minute film version will be produced specifically for Cinekid. This blurring of the borders between film and television fits the new approach taken by Cinekid’s programming, which reviews television and film productions equally. The film version of PLASTER CAST will be included in the Best Dutch Family Film Competition and will be eligible for a Jury Prize of €7,500 and an Audience Prize awarded by Cinekid’s young audience.
About Cinekid Festival
Cinekid is the world’s largest media festival for young people from 3 to 14 years old. Every year, some 65,000 children and their minders visit the festival at Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam, or one of 40 film theatres throughout the Netherlands. Cinekid offers children a chance to experience a diverse programme of high quality international media productions (films, TV programmes, games, apps, installations). At the same time, the festival organises talks, workshops and masterclasses with the goal of developing the young audience’s ability to deal with the media in an independent, critical and intelligent way.
