During the summer break, Cinekid and Stichting de Vrolijkheid are organising a grand festival tour for six different asylum centres across the Netherlands. From 16 July until 31 August, children between the ages of 3 and 14 and their parents can get acquainted with unique films, media workshops and interactive installations.
Participating centres are Rotterdam, Emmen, Grave, Leersum, Oisterwijk and Amsterdam.
Cinekid is the world’s largest media festival for young people from 3 to 14 years old. Every year, some 65,000 children and their minders visit the festival at Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam, or one of 40 film theatres throughout the Netherlands. Cinekid offers children a wider and more diverse range of high-quality (inter)national media productions (films, TV programmes, games, apps, installations) of a stand-out character. At the same time, the festival organises talks, workshops and masterclasses with the goal of developing the young audience’s ability to deal with the media in an independent, critical and intelligent way.
Cinekid wishes to be inclusive and has been organising special programmes for children who are not acquainted with our offer because of their social economic backgrounds or other situations. This includes the children in asylum centres.
