The script forms the basis of every production, for any age group or audience. Without a good story you are, quite frankly, lost. Whether it is a one minute, a game or a television series you are planning to make; the importance of a good script cannot be underestimated. And writing for children is even more challenging. Children want to be part of the story, they want to interact with it.
Cinekid has invited four different speakers, all experts in their field, to bring you up to speed on the latest developments and insights both in the content and on the business side of the trade.
First Karen Wallace will talk about what it takes to be a good writer for children’s media. How can we engage children and take them to new places? And who cares if a rock talks?
Then David Freeman takes you on a journey through the noble art of writing for games. Writing a game story, or transforming your TV series into a game requires a playable narrative. How can you do more with fewer lines and offer your audience a great experience?
The last two speakers, Julian Friedmann and Anne Zeegers will go into the business side of scriptwriting. Julian will elaborate on writing a plan to make sure everyone is making the same film and that you can sell your script. Anne will introduce a new Dutch initiative regarding digital rights management, PAM (Portal Audiovisuele Makers).
Karen Wallace has written over two hundred and fifty children’s books. She also writes for children’s television, such as CBBS’s Planet Cook (6-9), the Bafta award winning Hoobs (2001) series. More recently she was part of the writing team for Aardman’s pre-school show Timmy Time.
David Freeman is a screenwriter, videogame writer, renowned screenwriting instructor, and popular international speaker. He has sold scripts to Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Columbia Pictures, MGM, and others. He teaches “Beyond Structure”, the largest screenwriting class in Los Angeles, New York and London.
Julian Friedmann is Joint Managing Director of Blake Friedmann Literary Agency in London which represents 200 book and script writers worldwide. Also, he is the author of the bestseller ‘How to make money scriptwriting’.
Anne Zeegers, Ike Bertels and Waldemar Torenstra represent the Dutch initiative PAM from different fields: scriptwriters, directors and actors.
