In line with the theme for the 2010 Cinekid Festival, Fantastic Tales, this year’s leading roles will be played by fantastic creatures, imaginary worlds, magical happenings and several other supernatural elements. In the film programme fantastic classics will be screened such as E.T. (Steven Spielberg, 1982) and The NeverEnding Story (Wolfgang Petersen, 1984). A touch of magic will also be displayed in the competition programme with, for example, the Brazilian film Me and my umbrella (Toni Vanzolini, 2010). Dutch films contributing to this year’s theme will include Iep! (2010), Lang en Gelukkig (Pieter Kramer, 2010) and Foeksia de miniheks (Johan Nijenhuis, 2010).

In the Medialab children will be able to follow a number of workshops specially designed for the Fantastic Tales theme. At the Animation Centre, for example, they will be able to make a film in which they can fly just like Viegeltje in the film Iep!.

The Cinekid Festival will be held in and around the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam between 20 and 29 October. Cinekid on Location will be held at a number of different locations all over the Netherlands between 16 and 31 October.
