Makers of Avatar animation series at Cinekid!

Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko (VS), the creators of the internationally successful series Avatar - The Last Airbender will be present at Cinekid. This American animation series won numerous prizes, including an Emmy Award, and is a worldwide success in audience ratings. During the seminar Scritwriting for children - Creating Modern Heroes, to be held on Thursday 23 October, DiMartino and Konietzko, both working at Nickelodeon Animation Studios, will be using excerpts to illustrate their personal view of today's children's heroes.

Modern children's heroes will be at the heart of this seminar. In stories for children and the young, the choice of the protagonist reflects contemporary ideas and ideals concerning childhood. The hero is not only the leading character, but also a representative of all the hopes and ideals of the culture to which he or she belongs. Who are our modern heroes and who creates them? What can they tell us about ourselves? And exactly how ‘modern' are we in allowing diversity in our young heroes?

Other guests at the seminar will include Robert Alberdingk Thijm (Scenario Writer Dunya & Desie) and Ella Lemhagen (Director Tsatsiki, mum and the policeman)

Earlier in the day, DiMartino and Konietzko will be present as guests at the Cinekid Medialab. Children will be given a chance to ask them questions about their favourite series Avatar - The Legend of Aang, broadcast in the Netherlands by Nickelodeon.
